An Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) acts as a gatekeeper between you and the internet. It inspects all the electronic data that is sent between your personal devices and the internet. If any malicious communication is discovered, then the data is stopped at the gate and an alert message is recorded for later evaluation. This method of protection physically stops the data from actually reaching and damaging your sensitive devices, unlike antivirus or antimalware software which are only able to work after the virus or malware has already reached your computer.

The number of devices is limitless. As long as they are within Range then the capacity is determined by the volume of data being transmitted at any time and the number of connections. The capacity is no more or less than that of your existing wireless router.

When a visitor comes to your home and connects to the internet they have to connect to HIPSY for them to be protected, if they connect straight to your normal Wi-Fi they will not be. You can disable the wireless on your main router so that no one even close by can get connected without my security in operation. You never know where they have been!

The gipsy will not let anyone connect to connect if they do not have the right user name and password. If it recognizes malicious activity in your network that is attacking a device, it will block the hack or stop the activity without affecting the device itself. It will log that activity and report to the SOC for analysis and action. The whole concept of the way we connect to our IPS's is that no one can connect unless we give them access. If by some, highly unlikely, chance someone did manage to connect, then it would be wise to change every authorised person's password anyway!

The GIPSY is broadcasting a wireless signal to the devices that connect to it, exactly the same as your router. So, it is affected by the construction and distance just as any wireless device. The wireless we use the best available at the time of manufacture. The GIPSY connects to your router with an Ethernet cable, this means you can position one or more GIPSY's at various places around the building, so you not only get zonal protection you can position the GIPSY in the optimum position for wireless signal. If this flexibility is not enough we can provide a USB wireless antennae that may, in your location, help the signal quality. The chosen wireless optimises the quality with a range of signal; this in itself prevents anyone that you cannot see from even trying to gain access to your system.

As with any networking the dilemma is easily solved by using repeaters that can be installed through your electrical circuits. In some circumstances it is easy to set the GIPSY in repeater. Contact support for more information specific to your environment.

Your GIPSY will have two lights showing, intermittently flashing, at the point where your network cable is plugged in. At the opposite end of your GIPSY you will see a small red light and occasional a green light through an aperture in the case. These lights will flash from time to time, but not enough to distract you. Once powered on, you should be able to connect to the gipsy's wifi access point, and view the configuration pages at http://www.hipsy.home or http://www.gipsy.home.

Once connected you can browse to the STATUS page which will detail the configuration details. If the gipsy has blocked any bad traffic, then it will be shown in both the configuration page's 'Alerts' tab, and also sent to the SOC to be listed in the Userportal's device report. From my PC/Laptop/Tablet/Phone etc.; your wireless connections will show you connected and secure, with internet connection.

Your protection policies are updated at least every hour by the SOC when your gipsy is online. That time is synchronised with the SOC when the center updates the Phishing & Malware policies, so you are always up to date and protected against the very latest threats. Any major threats that are released in-between regular updates will be pushed to your gipsy in an out of band update, as and when the SOC feel it is necessary. You can of course configure and update your policies more regularly, by logging in and using the online 'User Portal'.

Yes. All gipsy's are manufacturer and operating system agnostic. They have been tested to work with all Windows operating systems, Android, and Apple products as well as many other manufacturer's devices.

As with any computer, the life is more to do with technology advances and software updates rather than physical constraint. The device will physically last until the dog eats it. The innards to the gipsy's are all the latest as at the time of delivery.

Software is updated every day, as required, so there is no reason why it should not last and be useable until technology requires an upgrade, maybe every 3 years.

Remember this is a subscription to a service which just happens to need a piece of hardware to connect and run the service.

An IPS by very definition is there to primarily stop attacks coming in, stop phishing and detect any malware infection in action. It does not scan what is on your computer, but rather looks at traffic coming to and leaving from your PC and other devices.

We like the latest terminology, Defence in Depth. DoD is the placing of security at various points in a network. Our detection is excellent and up to large corporate standards. However we like multi-layered security so we strongly advise the use of a reputable virus and Malware checker.
