gipsy launches to protect the millions of people working from home during COVID-19 crisis

Updated: Mar 21, 2020

Launching on a Friday is never a great idea. Launching in the midst of a major world emergency is even worse! gipsy however is a special case.

With millions of people being forced to work from home the internet should be a useful tool, a way to maintain our working lives and an entertainment refuge for families.

The problem is that most homes have little or no cyber security and as our houses fill with internet connected devices keeping the internet safe is becoming harder and harder to manage this.

gipsy is now your personal cyber security team!

How gipsy works:

Plug the gipsy into your home broadband router. Get every device in your house to connect to the internet through the gipsy. The gipsy is an IPS (intrusion protection system) with custom code that includes tens of thousands of security rules and a constantly growing database of more than 20 million phishing sites. It automatically restricts access to sites that have been known to sell illegal pharmaceuticals or other illegal content. It lets families block porn, gambling and inappropriate sites.

offers home workers and families all the security you would expect in your corporate office. The gipsy team are constantly monitoring threats, updating defenses and managing risk.

Just how many devices do we have in our homes?

A recent survey by Aviva showed the average family home has 15.4 internet connected devices and this number is rising by over 10% per year. These can include Laptops, Tablets. Mobiles, Smart TVs, game consoles, Kindles, security cameras, heating systems and home assistants like Alexa and Google. Most homes have little or no security in place and families often only think about security on their computers rather than all their devices and those of visitors to their home.

gipsy helps parents too

The box can allow you to block porn, adult and gaming sites while also helping to set limits on how long kids can be on their devices.

The team behind gipsy

PixAlert is a 20-year-old Irish cyber security company that started in UCD. It specializes in finding porn and private data in corporate networks with clients that include governments, BIG 4, Banks, etc. They have combined with UK company IDappcom Ltd who specialize in intrusion protection systems and work with leading security companies such as McAfee, Trend Micro and Juniper.

What does it cost?

Traditionally this type of technology was deployed in corporate offices, but families can buy the box then take an ongoing subscription of less that €9 a month.

How gipsy is different to my Antivirus, VPN and Firewall?

The first thing to remember is that there us no one magic bullet that can protect you and your family online. gipsy is no different and should be part of a wider defense. In the past these defenses we
